Jesus Resurrection

The Christian faith is based on the belief that Jesus died on the cross and rose again on the third day.

1 CORINTHIANS 15:14-16 (NIV)

14 And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. 15 More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised.16 For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either.17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.

Jesus defeated death and being without sin rose again in victory.

1 CORINTHIANS 15:55-57 (NIV)

55 “Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?”

56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Paul declares the resurrection of the Christ to the Corinthians.

1 CORINTHIANS 15:3-5 (NIV)

For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve.

Paul continues with multiple eye-witness accounts of the resurrection.

1 CORINTHIANS 15:6-8 (NIV)

After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.

Christians remember Jesus ultimate sacrifice on Good Friday and celebrate His resurrection three days later on Easter Sunday. Easter is also associated with the Passover. Both celebrations are firmly established in the Judeo-Christian practice.

Jews commemorate Passover as a ceremony of their freedom by God from enslavement in old Egypt.

COREY ASBURY: Death Where Is Your Sting

DEATH WHERE IS YOUR STING LYRICS:

For God so loved the world, He gave His Son
To bear the weight of sin, He bled for us
From Heaven's highest place, He took a fall
And there was just one life, laid down for all

Death, where is your sting?
Grave, where is your victory?
He's alive, He's alive
He is risen!

Behold the vacant tomb that held our Lord
That grave became the stage for Heaven's glory
And behold the Risen King in open skies
He is the Resurrection, He is the life

Death, where is your sting?
Grave, where is your victory?
He's alive, He's alive
He is risen!

No weapon formed against us will prosper
The gates of hell won't stand
Your Church will rise from glory to glory
In the name of Jesus
No weapon formed against us will prosper
The gates of hell won't stand
And Your Church will rise from glory to glory
In the name of Jesus

Death, where is your sting?
Grave, where is your victory?
He's alive, He's alive
He is risen!
Death, where is your sting?
Grave, where is your victory?
He's alive, He's alive
He is risen!
