The Prayer of Jabez+

THE PRAYER OF JABEZ

"Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh that You would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request.” (1 Chronicles 4:10)

IMPORTANT LESSONS FROM THIS PRAYER

The Bible tells us that Jabez cried to God and he acknowledges God's headship and lordship over his life. Jabez does not just recognize the one and only real God, he also recognizes that blessings come from God alone.

Many believe that Jabez is simply referring to physical land when asking to enlarge his territory. However, if we check out the lineage of Jabez we can understand that he was not only speaking in terms of prosperity but in making an impact on the kingdom of God. Jabez desired his spiritual territory to increase, to claim generations for God.

Jabez wanted God to be in his life constantly, every minute of his day. Jabez understood God's power in guiding and protecting His people.

The birth name of Jabez means "born in pain". This name was chosen by his Mother due to the extremely painful labor she experienced. When Jabez prays, he speaks against the testimony of his name and pleads to have his name released of its shameful meaning.
